The Overberg Indwe

Clenton Stuurman
Goldrush Boland frontline seam bowler, Glenton Stuurman, who is capped at both test- and T20i level for South Africa, as well as seasoned veteran, Aviwe Mgijima, will be the Indwe’s mainstays along with their third marquees player, former SA U19 allrounder, Lehan Botha.
THE Overberg Indwe are looking to give a good account of themselves during the new and exciting Boland T10 tournament which kicks off at Boland Park in Paarl on Sunday.
The Indwe will take on the Northern Raiders in the tournament opener on Sunday and by the sounds of it, see themselves as a bit of a wild card. That being said, they have still managed to assemble what seems to be a respectable team on paper.
Wicketkeeper, Kaden Solomons, another u19 Protea, will also play a vital role after leading Maties to victory in the inaugural Goldrush Boland Super League at the back end of last season. Another player who will be looking to make an impact is allrounder, Garreth Wolmarans, who was the Indwe’s first pick in round one of the draft evening.
Former Boland fast bowler, James Albanie, says his chargers are excited to showcase their talent on a fresh and new platform. ‘’The squad, and especially the youngsters within our ranks, are very excited to get on the park,’’ he said. ‘’Our management team is running around to get all our logistical arrangements in place as some of our squad members have to travel some distance. Generally, though, there’s a good and positive feeling within the squad.’’
When quizzed about their strategy going into the draft evening, Albanie said: ‘’Prior to the draft evening we identified 21 names which we wanted to select our last seven players from. They were mostly allrounders as we wanted to have a strong balance after our marquees- and pre-selected were identified before the draft. We are perhaps lacking in the spin department but generally we’re happy although we are perhaps lacking a finisher in our batting line-up who can close games or can take games away from the opposition. But, that being said, I’m fairly happy with what we have.’’
Albanie concluded by giving his view on the Indwe’s chances in the tournament. ‘’Our management team is quite adamant that we make the semi-finals but I’m cautiously optimistic because of factors like the unknown (format) and the fact that these guys have not played together (before).’’
